The formula seems simple enough. Quit your day job, do what you love, and enjoy the rewards of being your own boss. The ultimate dream and you've declared 2017 is the year to finally step out to pursue your passion. But have you considered how prematurely quitting your job could easily turn your passion into a nightmare?
I know this flies in the face of the hundreds of blogs saying otherwise, but creating a profitable business is not completely mastered in 10 Simple Steps or whatever the tons of Pinterest graphics would have you to believe (P.S. I love Pinterest but you know what I'm talking about).
Entrepreneurship is hard.
I'm not saying you shouldn't go for it—by all means, The Creative Hang Suite's purpose is to encourage women to pursue the desires of their heart—just ask yourself these questions before you decide to put in your 2 weeks notice.
1. Should I really quit my job?
With the uncertainty of starting a business, remaining employed during those beginning stages is more beneficial than not. You may think your current job is hindering your business' potential of success but not having a stable income could derail your plans before it's started. Instead, think of your side hustle as a 'beta test' to see if your idea is profitable before you take that leap.
2. Do I have enough money to start my business?
You need money to make money. Without having funds saved to cover your business and personal expenses, your dream of becoming your own boss could end before it even began.
3. Do I have the discipline to run my own business?
Being your own boss doesn't instantly make life easier. You are responsible for EVERYTHING. Can you handle being on the clock 24/7, worrying about every aspect of running your business,(financials, marketing, ect.), or setting up the proper structure to make your business run more efficiently? There is no calling out and using sick leave. You are your business and if you lack the discipline it takes to roll out of bed each morning with a clear mission to run your business, your business will run you into ruin. Do your due diligence before starting your business by asking, "Can I handle it?"
